Grenoble-Australia exchanges

The exchange with Melbourne

1. Three Melbourne schools participate in the exchange: Methodist Ladies’ College for girls, Saint Catherine’s School for girls and Melbourne Grammar School for boys. All are private, fee-paying schools (but our students only pay about 80 Euros to cover basic expenses like uniform rental), with excellent reputations.

2. Dates: departure towards the end of June and return to France 6 weeks later. Your Australian partner would arrive in France in early December , and would return to Melbourne probably between the 10th and 20th of January.

3. The first 2 weeks in Australia would be school vacation. Your Australian family would organise local excursions, and perhaps trips further away (Canberra, Sydney...) We expect you to offer them local excursions over Christmas holidays: skiing, other regions of France, (all want to see Paris and we expect you take them.)

4. During the rest of your stay you would attend normal classes at your exchange partner’s school. Attendance is compulsory, (this is NOT a vacation!) and you would wear a uniform-but the hours are shorter than in France, and there is a wider range of school subjects available. You would probably have the opportunity to participate in various school activities -sport, music, choir, theatre...

5. You would travel to and from Australia as a group (Mrs. Zanone handles the plane bookings), but not with a teacher. In Australia, the coordinators will be Ms. Plumb (MLC), Mrs. Buzza (Saint Catherine’s) and Mrs. Llewellyn (Melb. Grammar).

6. On the return trip, families will lodge the Australian partner, organize transport to school for them, make them understand the rules you expect them to respect, and show them around, organizing and paying for some outings and trips. You and your family must speak only French with them when they are here.

7. Cost: The total cost to you would be: a) the plane fare (probably around € 1500this year, Lyon or Geneva/Melbourne return) b) insurance - "responsabilité civile" valid in Australia (you must consult your insurance company) -cancellation insurance (the travel agency will offer you this)
- complete health insurance (this may include compulsory Australian health insurance at MLC) c) pocket money. Judging by past experience, 300€ is very adequate. The host family in each country will pay for holiday travel for the foreign student, but not day-to-day expenses like snacks or cinema....

The Grenoble-Canberra Exchange

This exchange between the Cité Scolaire Internationale and Telopea Park School in Canberra has been organized just recently. The application process, open to all students in 2nd, begins in October. Students from Canberra come to Grenoble the following April and stay for 5 weeks. They usually go to Paris as a group before joining their host families in Grenoble. Students from the CSI go to Canberra at the end of June and stay for 6 weeks. Items 2-5 and 7 (listed above) regarding the Melbourne exchange apply to the exchange with Canberra.
