"A Year In The Merde" by Stephen Clarke is definitely the best book I’ve read in a long time, and believe me I am a true book-hater.He experiences French charm, French inefficiency, sublime French food, slimy French corruption and political intrigue, a seemingly endless series of strikes, and many French women.

This book displays a true story (or so the author says) of an Englishman working in France. It gives all the comic situations that arise because of the cultural conflict between the French and the English, that always perspired ever since the Middle-Ages. Clarke’s harsh simple writing conveys well every things he sees or feels. At the multiple times the author steps in a dog’s turd, it is only too rejoycing to imagine him scream "Merde".
