Two days of ski

Tuesday 9 February 2010, by Julie, Katie et Mélissa

All the versions of this article: [Deutsch] [English] [français]

18 pupils left for the day to the mountain, Chamrousse!! To the program:
- On Monday 8/02: slope skiing all day long, departure from Grenoble at 8:15 am and return at 5:30 pm.

- On Tuesday 9/02: cross-country skiing. They had to meet at the station of Grenoble at 7:30 am in the cold and they left at 7:45 am to return at 5:30 pm. It was a fast departure but Mélissa managed to get back with some photos of the group.

We could also interview Gozienna (who was not able to go to slope skiing because he had never done some) and Younes (who hurt his knee on Monday and thus was not able to go to go cross-country skiing the next day).

The group divided into three, according to their level. In the morning the strongest skied with Mrs. Tress and the rest with the two other professors and in the afternoon small changes : the best with Mr.Parisotto, the least good with Mrs. Tress and the rest with Mr.Cuny.

You want to know more about it?

1) What is the environment of snow ?

The environment of snow is a limited space where we can find some snow thus to practise winter sports (example: ski, snowshoes, sledge)

2) What is the flora and the fauna which we find there?

- Grouse-lyre
- golden eagle
- red fox
- roe deer
- deer
- chamois
- to note: the wolf is present on this sector … Flora:
- Conifers

3) How many centimeters of snow is there?

We can find (on 08/02/2010) at the bottom of tracks 95 centimetres of snow and at the top of tracks 1,20 m.

4) What is the weather ?

They are lucky today (on Monday, February 8th, 2010) it’s sunny but tomorrow will arrive the snow!!! BE CAREFUL of the black ice on roads.

5) Use of the map IGN (NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC INSTITUTE) and of the compass.

IGN maps are maps reduced on the scale of 1: 25 000 until 1: 1 000 000. They allow to calculate distances, heights, slopes and to define directions. Compasses, we use them when we want to turn. To go to the North it is necessary to turn the compass until the arrow is on the North.

Do you think that they used these instruments? It would be better because otherwise we shall find them completely on the West.
